Curriculum

Hatch Beauchamp C of E Primary School offers a broad and balanced curriculum that enables children to flourish and develop skills in all subject areas. Please read our curriculum intent statements for more information.

In English, we use the Read Write Inc. programme for a systematic and dynamic approach to teaching phonics and reading in KS1, extending provision into KS2 as necessary. Good spelling is supported through No Nonsense Spelling and quality writing is achieved through the Talk for Writing approach.

Mathematical skills are taught through a variety of methods and mediums, including web-based practice using iXL.com, Hegarty Maths, Times Tables Rock Stars and Numeracy Ninjas. Children are encouraged to develop into fluent mathematicians with strong reasoning skills through revealing the structure and variation of mathematics and exposing them to a wide-range of visual representations.

All other National Curriculum subjects are taught through our themes in a practical and purposeful way. Children are encouraged to make links between subject areas, whilst applying their core skills of Maths, Reading and Writing.

Each week the children work with our sports coach to partake in a range of activities and games that help build core problem-solving, team-work and leadership skills through gym, dance and team sports. Our sports coach also supports children who may require additional help developing their physical skills.
